Causes

On top of being a legendary drummer, Alvin Taylor is also a generous soul who uses his musical skill to contribute to a number of charitable causes focused on helping and healing. Below are some of the causes closest to Alvin’s heart.

Raven Drum Foundation

Raven Drum Foundation serves, educates, and empowers trauma survivors and communities in crisis, with a focus on Veterans and First Responders. By integrating advocacy, storytelling, music and arts programs and events, we bring the tools and experiences of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) to support and inspire mental health, resiliency, and unity. The Raven Drum Foundation, founded by singer/ songwriter Lauren Monroe and Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen hosts events including drum circles filled with legendary drummers, including Jim Keltner, Matt Sorum, Todd Sucherman, and Alvin Taylor.

Section 14 Survivors

In the early 1900s, the City of Palm Springs enacted housing policies that prohibited racial minorities from renting or buying homes in parts of the city. These racially restrictive covenants prevented African Americans from living in communities near its predominantly white residents and led them to become concentrated in an area of town known as Section 14. Seeing an opportunity for profit, the city then drove them out. City-employed fire fighters and private companies bore down on the neighborhood and burned and bulldozed homes and personal possessions of residents. Today, Section 14 Survivors fights for justice for those displaced, shares their experiences, and works to prevent such injustice from happening again. Alvin Taylor is a Section 14 survivor.
